Bazarkurdistan:«Inshallah a Boy» won the 11th Duhok International Film Festival’s top prize, the Yılmaz Güney award, along with a cash prize of $10,000.
The Duhok International Film Festival announced the winners of its World Cinema and Kurdish Cinema competitions.
Inshallah a Boy won the festival’s top prize, the Yılmaz Güney award, along with a cash prize of $10,000. The New Talent Award was bestowed upon One of Those Days When Hemme Dies. The film was granted a $4000 award along with a Golden Leaf statue. Feature film Moon received the jury’s special mention.
In the Kurdish cinema competition, the Best Film award, including the Golden Leaf and $5000, was granted to the movie When the Walnut Leaves Turn Yellow. A Happy Day won several awards including Best Director, Best cinematographer and Jury’s Special Mention. Other award winners included the Best Screenplay award for The Virgin and Child, Korkmaz Arslan was awarded the Best Actor prize for When the Walnut Leaves Turn Yellow, and Hêvyn Tekin was named the Best Actress for her performance in The Virgin and Child.
The Best International Documentary Award was given to the feature-length documentary film It Ain’t Where You Are From. Factory Drop won the Best International Short film Award, while Privacy was recognised as the Best Kurdish Short film Award, Home-made received the Jury’s Special prize, and the Jury’s Special Mention was given to Ever Since, I Have Been Flying and Limo knew everything. The FIPRESCI Award was given to the motion picture A Happy Day.

He added: Based in Iraq, Duhok Film Festival is a trusted member of Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia known as Asian Oscars, introducing global films in this cinematic event.
Duhok Film Festival, presided by Amir Ali Mohammed Tahir, with artistic management by Shawkat Amin Korki, and in memoriam of Yılmaz Güney, the 1982 Palme d’or winner in Cannes, is in an effort to bridge the gap between Kurdish directors and those from the rest of the world, facilitating cultural exchanges among the nations all around the world.
