A total of 107 domestic and foreign companies showcased their latest achievements at the Tehran International Industry Exhibition. The stated goal of the event was to “support domestically produced goods and after-sales services.”
However, based on the remarks of Safadin Kamal Jamal, a businessman from the Kurdistan Region, it appears that the exhibition was more symbolic than commercial. He rightly noted that the event merely displayed “achievements” without creating real opportunities for contracts, exchanges, or genuine business negotiations.
This points to one of the structural weaknesses of trade exhibitions in Iran: the lack of infrastructure for matchmaking or purposeful connections between producers and buyers.
The announcement of the participation of a delegation from the Kurdistan Region — particularly from Halabja Province — is of special significance. Halabja is a symbol of post-war reconstruction and sustainable development in the Kurdistan Region, and the presence of its traders in Tehran can be seen as a sign of the continuation of economic ties between the Region and Iran.
At the same time, the implicit dissatisfaction of Kurdish traders over the absence of real trade opportunities indicates that unless Iran strengthens mechanisms for facilitating exchange, logistics, and bilateral agreements, the Kurdistan Region will likely lean more toward other regional partners — especially Turkey.
