BazarKurdistan:
Kermanshah – The first-ever Export Potential Exhibition opened on Tuesday, October 12, 2025, at the International Permanent Exhibition Center in Kermanshah. The event has brought together 35 major companies from across the province, aiming to showcase their capabilities and boost trade ties—particularly with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Strengthening Economic Ties with Kurdistan Region
“This is the first exhibition we are participating in, and it’s an important step,” said Mustafa Sheikh Abdulrahman,The Head of the Union of Importers and Exporters of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
He emphasized the strength of Kermanshah’s food industry, stating that many of the province’s goods are already present in KRG markets. “However, we’re looking to increase imports from Kermanshah,” he added. “We encouraged manufacturers to improve the quality of their products and consider establishing factories within the Kurdistan Region, similar to their operations here.”
In response, representatives from Manizan Dairy announced their plans to open a new facility in Kalar city, saying they are currently completing the necessary administrative procedures.
“They rely on fresh milk and avoid powdered alternatives, which adds value to their dairy products,” said Abdulrahman. “Kermanshah is known for its strength in agriculture and dairy, and it aims to lead in these sectors within Iran.”
Trade Outlook and Kermanshah’s Strategic Position
Highlighting the scale of trade between the regions, Abdulrahman added: “Our annual trade volume exceeds $6 billion. Food products are our top imports due to their quality and affordability. Iran is our second-largest trading partner after Turkey.”
Kermanshah’s geographic location makes it a vital economic corridor. Bordering Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah and Diyala provinces, the province serves as a key gateway between Iranian producers and Iraqi—and especially Kurdistan Region—consumers. Its role in national and regional trade continues to grow, fueled by shared borders and logistical advantages. The economic stability and growing demand in the Kurdistan Region have also increased opportunities for Kermanshah-based businesses. Easy access to cities like Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Halabja has made the province a hub for trade offices and export operations.
Showcasing Local Talent and Industry
The exhibition highlighted the diversity and craftsmanship of Kermanshah’s industries. Notable companies, and traditional Giveh weavers proudly showcased their products. These displays reflected both technological innovation and cultural heritage, symbolizing the dedication and skill of the local workforce.
Challenges Under Sanctions
However, participating businesses also pointed to challenges—particularly the impact of international sanctions. Many reported disruptions in production due to rising costs of raw materials, which have hindered operations and growth.
Openness to Media Collaboration
Exhibitors expressed strong interest in collaborating with the Bazarkurdistan media to promote their products and services. This engagement is seen as a valuable opportunity to increase visibility, attract partners, and foster cross-cultural exchange. Greater media cooperation, they believe, could help open new markets and strengthen bilateral ties.
